Black & White Florals
When I first moved to Charlottesville, I enrolled in a Japanese class at the University of Virginia. Everyday I would walk through the beautiful flower filled gardens. Week after week I would enjoy this peaceful walk when I finally decided to try photographing them. This was the late 90's so I was shooting Ilford 100 B&W film with my Canon A2 and 180mm Sigma macro. Using a flashlight, my ever supportive husband crawled around behind bushes to backlight a variety of flowers while I zoomed in with my Macro lens. My favorites are the close-up abstract images. They take you beyond the everyday common view and make you see a different side of an otherwise ordinary flower. I later bought flowers from the florist and brought a few flowers into the studio for more variety.
I hope you enjoy!
